The Ukrainian eyewear brand Hetmans has become a real sensation overseas. The glasses are made of wood and feature Hutsul ornamentation carved on the temples. According to ogogo.if.ua, this design combines ancient traditions with modern fashion.

The glasses, which cost $170, are bought by world stars. The frames are manufactured in the US, and the carvings are made in Ivano-Frankivsk. The brand was founded by a Ukrainian, Nick Rozar, who was born in Boston.

“I came to the Carpathians and fell in love with the Hutsuls and our culture,” said Nick Rosar. He wanted everyone in the US to know about Hutsuls.

“I realised that no one would buy the boxes or the carpets, but the glasses were a great idea,” says Nick Rozar. He organised production in two countries. Each pair of glasses bears the inscription “Made in Ukraine”.

“It is important for me that every customer knows they are wearing a product of Ukrainian culture,” adds Nick Rosar. The brand’s website states: “The work of our artists is the product of many generations of craftsmen who came before them. Wood is a timeless part of Ukrainian culture. Our collaboration reflects the work of ancient traditions.”
