SCHOOL OF HUTSUL ORNAMENT
Every year, the National Center "JASU" on the basis of the Museum of Hutsul and Pokuttya named after Y. Kobrynsky holds the All-Ukrainian Summer School "On the Paths of Hutsul Ornament" under the leadership of Deputy Director for Art Direction Maria Lubynska.
The goal of the school is to develop creativity, creative thinking, and a strong internal motivation for learning and scientific research through the knowledge of living cultural heritage, in particular Hutsul ornamentation as a unique local manifestation of Ukrainian culture, as well as providing psycho-emotional support to children and youth in emergency situations by engaging them in creative activities and traditional crafts.

We create an educational space in which children, through familiarity with tradition, learn about the culture of their region, develop creativity, research skills and a sense of connection with their own cultural identity. The program is cross-sectoral in nature and combines scientific, educational and artistic directions - from the study of traditional ornamentation to its modern interpretation, creating a space for creativity on the border of tradition and modernity. Knowledge is put into practice: children develop research skills, critical thinking, teamwork and responsibility - competencies important for art and life in general. Participation in creative practices and work with traditional crafts contribute to emotional support, help restore internal balance and form a sense of security and resilience in emergency situations.
Children from different regions of Ukraine, including forcibly displaced people, are involved in the program. A safe and supportive educational space is created for them in the natural environment of mountains, forests and meadows - an environment of silence, natural rhythms of the day and the direct presence of the environment. In such an atmosphere, the combination of research work, creative activity and interaction with cultural heritage contributes to the restoration of internal resources and the formation of resilience. This approach is most fully implemented in the format of summer schools.

We are convinced that immersion in intangible cultural heritage strengthens the inner core of a child, forms identity, respect for one’s own roots and openness to the world. Hutsul ornaments in this process become a tool of cognition — it develops attentiveness, imagination, aesthetic taste, spatial thinking and the ability to creative self-expression.
The task of the school is to make learning not an obligation, but a natural need. So that curiosity develops into a research passion, and creativity into an inner strength that leads to self-realization. Through living heritage, children are able to feel the connection between generations, find their own voice and transform knowledge into a personal experience that inspires constant development.

The school program includes several areas:
- lectures on cultural studies, history and semantics of Hutsul ornament;
- master classes on traditional crafts from folk craftsmen and bearers of the National Cultural Heritage. Children can choose what they like: carving, ceramics, woodcarving, Easter egg making, embroidery, cheese sculpture, brass making, spoon making;
- interactive classes in museums and excursions;
- field research and ethnographic expeditions.

Participants visit museums, workshops, masters' estates and have the opportunity to practically master the crafts of the Carpathian region.
A separate direction of the school's work is social. Children who have suffered as a result of emergencies, as well as children who are in difficult life circumstances, are involved in participation. Thus, the school's activities are aimed at supporting sustainability through intangible cultural heritage.
