An ornamental motif made up of a stem with symmetrically arranged graniform elements. It resembles a stylized wheat ear, hence the name ‘kolosok’ (little ear) or ‘pshenychka’ (little wheat). This motif typically appears as a straight or curved stripe, often serving as a frame for cellular patterns, which are usually round or star-shaped. This motif can also be combined with other decorative elements. Craftsmen use several varieties of this motif, including ‘thylysnyk’ (trefoil), ‘lystochky’ (leaves), and ‘zerniatka’ (grains). The grainiform elements of ‘pshenychka’ (little wheat) motif serve as the basis for such motifs as ‘zaiachi vushka’ (hare's ears), ‘krosentsia’ (small looms), ‘propelery’ (propellers), and a large number of centrepiece rosette-type patterns. ’Pshenychka’ motif is commonly found in carving and less frequently in inlay design.
