An ornamental motif made up of triangles tightly arranged to form a straight or curved band. The motif can appear in several ways depending on the technique used, jags’ type or combination with other elements.There are several variations of this motif: zubtsi zvychaini (ordinary jags), zubchyky v ilchastomy (crosshatched jags, or jags with ilchaste pysmo), zubchyky z holivkamy (jags with tops, or domes), zubtsi dubeltovi (double jags), keptari (short sleeveless fur coat), morshchinka (wrinkle), pivkruhli zubtsi (semicircular jags). Zubtsi is a very common motif widely used in wood carving, inlay designs, woodburning, metal chasing, embroidery, ceramics, pysanka (Easter egg) designs, and furriery. Although it can be used to create a variety of border and centerpiece motifs when combined with other elements, it is most frequently used to frame ornamental compositions or single motifs.
