An ornamental motif made up of triangles tightly packed to form a straight or curved strip. Depending on the technique used, the jags’ shape or combination with other elements, the motif can change its appearance and character. There are several variations of this motif: ‘zubtsi zvychaini’ (ordinary jags), ‘zubchyky v ilchatomu’ (crosshatched jags, or jags with ‘ilchate pysmo’), ‘zubchyky z holivkamy’ or ‘bani’ (jags with tops or domes), ‘zubtsi dubeltovi’ (double jags), ‘keptari’ (short sleeveless fur coat), ‘morshchinka’ (wrinkle), ‘pivkruhli zubtsi’ (semicircular jags). 
‘Zubtsi’ is a very common motif widely used in wood carving, inlay designs, woodburning, metal chasing, embroidery, ceramics, pysanka (Easter egg) designs, and furriery. When combined with other elements, this motif can produce border or cenrepiece patterns, however, it is mostly used to frame individual motifs or ornamental compositions.
