An ornamental motif consisting of triangles arranged in a single row or alternating positions. The same crosshatched (‘ilchate pysmo’) motif is called ‘bendiuhy sicheni’. The origin of the motif's name can be interpreted in different ways. Horse-drawn drays for the carriage of cargoes were called ‘bendiuhy.’ In the Hutsul region, these drays were used to transport hay. They were loaded with special ladders tilted in opposite directions, which could be associated with triangles. Perhaps the word ‘bendiuhy’ comes from the word ‘binda’ (‘bindiuchka’), a band, a strip. As they develop, such bands produce a wavy line resembling the connected triangles of the ‘bendiuhy’ motif.
