Visimky (Besahy) (Eights (Saddlebags))

An ornamental motif consisting of connected rhombuses with overlapping ends, which is used in wood carving and metal chasing. It is a band motif with crosshatched elements. The pattern resembles a saddlebag or number eight. A somewhat similar motif made up of three connected rhombuses, the central one of which is much larger, is also called ‘besahy.’ This motif is typically used in inlay designs. A variation of ‘besahy’ motif can be seen in pysanka (Easter egg) desings.
