An ornamental border motif composed of oval-shaped elements with pointed ends, arranged rhythmically in a horizontal line. Sometimes, the spaces between the elements are filled with triangles, ‘zerniatko’ (grain), ‘kruzhaltsia’ (small circles) motifs or other shapes. This motif, featuring crosshatched (‘ilchate pysmo’) texture, is commonly found in wood carving. The name comes from its similarity to a leeches. A similar crosshatched motif arranged vertically is called “shyshky” (pine cones).
