Baraniachi rohy (Ram's Horns)

An ornamental motif consisting of two parallel bands with spiral twisted ends that resemble a ram's horns. The motif is primarily used in flat carving. A variation of the ‘ram's horns’ motif is ‘kucheri’ (сurls).
The ‘ram's horns’ motif is best suited for creating cross-shaped and rosette-type cross-shaped motifs. It was prevalent in the 17th-19th century Hutsul carving works. It is also used in pysanka (Easter egg) design, embroidery, furriery, carpet weaving, and tile making. The shape of the ram's horns was used in wax baptismal crosses (‘kryzhyky’) and ritual baptismal kolaches (soft sweet bread).
