An ornamental motif that resembles a grid made up of squares, diamonds, or triangles, similar to crosshatching (‘ilchate pysmo’), but with much larger cells. Sometimes a small dot is inserted in the centre of each cell – ‘machok’ (poppy seed), most often by inlaying with metal ‘shtyftyk’ (pin), ‘koralyky’ (corals), ‘patsiorky’ (necklaces).
The name of the motif comes from the words ‘sikty’ (to cut) and ‘nasikaty’ (to cover with narrow grooves, to cut into narrow strips).
