Circle

An ornamental motif consisting of circular elements arranged into ornamental structures – border or centerpiece designs. This motif is used in wood carving, inlays, woodburning, metal chasing, etc. Depending on the size of the circles (rings), their clustering, and combination with each other or with other elements, not only the nature of the motif but also the artistic and aesthetic essence and figurative meaning of the whole ornamentation composition can change. This motif can be repeated with a certain rhythmic sequence along a straight, broken, or bent line or around a circle, and can also be aligned with other elements, forming new motifs or enriching them.

Based on smaller circular elements, such motifs as kruzhechok (circle), kiltsiatko (ring), obruchyk (hoop), kolachyk (circlet), kolisnytsia (chariot), vizochok (small wagon), lantsiuzhok (chain), etc. may be created. Larger circular elements are used to create rosette-type centerpiece motifs: sonechko (sun), soniashnyk (sunflower), vinochok (small wreath), kosytsia (flower), mlynok (small windmill), velyka ruzha (large rose), mala ruzha (small rose) and many more.
